Transportation Company Looking to Expand In Windsor

A Brampton ground transportation company is one step closer to expanding in Windsor and creating more jobs.

The Planning, Heritage and Economic Development Standing Committee has approved providing a tax incentive to "BSD Linehaul Inc" to build a 150,000 sq. ft. facility at the corner of Walker Rd. and Division.

The company already has a facility at Janette and Tecumseh Rd. employing 42 people.

Tom St. Louis is with BSD Linehaul and says it is a $20-million investment that will create 60 jobs, just in warehousing and office, plus more truck drivers will be needed.

St. Louis says the company needs to expand as a result of electronic logs in the U.S. which cuts down on the amount of time a driver can be on the road.

"It cuts down on the amount of travel time that a driver can actually work, by forcing smaller companies that aren't using logs and are bending the rules by forcing them to stick to the rules," says St. Louis.  "It means there is going to be a huge upswing in the amount of drivers needed going into the U.S that are fresh and ready to go early that day."

St. Louis says the company hopes to break ground on the new facility within the next couple of months and should be fully operational in nine months.

BSD Linehaul Inc focuses on hauling steel coils and other metal products between Canada and the U.S.

The tax break is provided under the city's Economic Revitalization Community Improvement Plan.
