Two Local Organizations Aimed At Homelessness Join Forces
A merger of two organizations aimed at ending homelessness in Windsor.
The Downtown Mission and Windsor Youth Centre have announced an amalgamation which will see the centre operate as an arm of the downtown mission.
The move is designed to provide better and more efficient services to homeless youth in the city.
The Windsor Youth Centre is a drop-in centre for homeless youth.
Downtown Mission Executive Director Ron Dunn says it means more stability for both organizations.
"Strength in numbers, right so the Windsor Youth Centre is the leading force for youth programming and we recognize that's an area that we lacked," says Dunn. "We have youth programming but this meaningful and purposeful."
The merger will take effect September 1st.
A survey in April 2016 found more than 30 homeless youth are living on Windsor streets on any given day.
