Unifor local 200 is holding a special membership meeting on the weekend to discuss the Nemak plant closure.

270 workers will be out of a job when the aluminum casting plant closes in mid 2020.

Local 200 president John D'Agnolo will address the members on Sunday at 10 a.m. to discuss their collective agreement and what the next steps will be.

The meeting is being held at the Local 200 union hall on Turner Road.

The Mexican based company said in July the decision to close the plant was made after a client in China decided to phase out of the contract early.

AM800 News has learned the program was with GM Shanghai and sales of vehicles that use a 2L engine block made at Nemak have dropped 75 per cent in that country.

Since 2015, Nemak had received $4.5 million from the provincial and federal governments to support the company's production in Windsor.
