Unifor Sets Up Strike Headquarters

Unifor Local 444 has set up a strike headquarters for striking Caesars Windsor workers.

The headquarters is located in a parking lot on University Avenue East at Glengarry.

There is a Unifor tent along with a portable office/trailer there.

Secretary-Treasurer Dave Cassidy says the membership remains upbeat.

"We just got to make sure that we get things set up here," says Cassidy.  "Obviously I mean it's early, moods are up right now but we got a lot of work to do."

He adds unionized workers were not involved during the checkout process for hotel guests.

"Pretty disappointed the fact that they're bussing their managers in," says Cassidy.  "I mean there's a protocol in place and the protocol is we're going to hold them up the 15-minutes before they get in and I don't know what they're going to do in there but we had some meetings ahead of time and we had a protocol in place and obviously that's changed."

Strike Co-ordinator Stephanie Dunphy says the workers are not happy.

"The workers are, they're angry right now so they're pumped up, they're ready to stand out there and hopefully in the end they get what they are looking for," says Dunphy.

The last time workers at the casino went out on strike was back in 2004.

A deal was reached after six weeks on the picket lines.
