UPDATE: Freezing Rain Special Statement Issued for Wednesday Morning
A heads up for a potentially slippery drive to work Wednesday morning.
Environment Canada has put out a special weather statement to alert people to the possibility.
The statement covers Windsor, Essex County, Leamington, Chatham-Kent and Rondeau Park.
Environment Canada Severe Weather Preparedness Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says a period of freezing rain is expected.
"Beginning after midnight Tuesday night, so that by rush hour on Wednesday morning there will have already been several hours of freezing rain so not good for driving on Wednesday morning."
Kimbell says the icy conditions won't last long Wednesday.
"The good news is we expect temperatures to rise above zero on Wednesday up to plus two, plus three so that should help. I would say probably late morning the temperature would go above zero"
He adds that after the freeze it will be milder.
"We would expect it to actually persist above zero for the next little while so that while our forecast right now says freezing rain or snow on Wednesday, it's more like it's going to be freezing rain turning to intermittent rain"
Kimbell says temperatures will hover above freezing until Friday when we return to more seasonal winter conditions.
