UPDATE: Nurses Vote Down Tentative Deal
The nurses strike in Windsor-Essex continues.
More than 80 public health nurses, represented by the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) Local 8 have voted against ratifying a tentative agreement with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
Bargaining Committee President Barb Deter says the nurses will return to the picket lines on Wednesday.
She says the bargaining committee did recommend the deal.
"What I can say that they did vote and obviously it did not ratify," says Deter. "Our employer and our mediator were both advised that we would really like to get back to the table again as soon as possible with hopes of a better offer."
Deter says the membership is disappointed with the offer.
"They spoke with the vote and we're hoping to get back and try and get something better," says Deter.
Details of the tentative agreement were not released but wages were a key issue in the dispute.
The nurses have been on strike since March 8th.
When asked for comment, the Health Unit simply says "we are not able to comment at this time."
