UPDATE: One Person Charged Following Windsor Duplex Fire
One person is now charged with arson following a suspicious duplex fire in Windsor.
It started just before 4am Saturday at 727 Mercer St., not far from Wyandotte St. Windsor Fire and Rescue's John Lee tells CTV Windsor the flames started at the back of the home in an enclosed porch.
He says three people escaped the blaze, but a man in his '60s was taken to hospital with second degree burns to his arms and chest.
The Major Crimes Branch has confirmed the injured man from Windsor has been taken into custody and faces arson charges in relation to the fire.
A neighbour, who didn't want to be named, tells CTV Windsor the fire was a little too close for comfort.
"I went out to the back of my porch and I can see flames coming out. It was very scary for me," she says. "It was too close to home and I don't like it. This neighbourhood really needs to start to change."
Damage is set at $175,000.
