UPDATE: Second Priest Dismissed in Five Months
After removing a priest in 2018, the Diocese of London has released a statement about the removal of a second priest.
In October 2017, allegations were brought forward regarding 'inappropriate sexual activity' by Father Maurice Charbonneau.
Charbonneau was the pastor at St. Mary's Church in Maidstone and St. John the Evangelist in Woodslee.
He was ordained in April 1994.
As AM800 News told you back In September 2018, the diocese received information about allegations of sexually abusive behaviour against Father Andrew Dwyer, who was the pastor of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Theresa parishes in Windsor.
The allegations against Dwyer are of a historic nature.
According to the diocese, 'both priests were immediately relieved of their respective pastoral duties'.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of London tells AM800 News that, 'it is not commenting on whether police investigations have gone on or are under going. We are not commenting on that at all."
He indicates that not all allegations end up as criminal convictions as it depends on the type of abuse and the action of the victim.
As for the reason behind releasing the statement, the spokesperson says, 'because it is a public statement that there have been allegations and this is the conclusion to the Bishop's investigation. It affects the people across the diocese and victims need to know that we take this seriously and act accordingly."
Windsor Police Sergeant Steve Betteridge won't confirm or deny any investigation but indicates if there was any criminal charges that were in the public interest, police would release the information.
