UPDATE-VIDEO: Police Find Suspects 'Passed out' Behind The Wheel In East-Windsor
Windsor Police Services have confirmed two men taken into custody after fleeing the scene of a crash were found "passed out" in a busy east-Windsor intersection.
Patrol officers arrived on the scene of an accident on Tecumseh Rd. near Buckingham St. at around 6pm Friday. Witnesses told police a black pick-up truck was driving erratically and left the area after causing a collision.
According to police, the truck was located a short time later at Tecumseh Rd. E. and Forest Glade Dr. after the public noticed their erratic behaviour and boxed the vehicle in until officers arrived.
Police tell AM800 News emergency services were called in after the pair was found "passed out" with the truck in gear and idling. Officers on scene reported the men appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Wyse Jamali tells CTV News was driving nearby and caught some of what happened.
"At first I was like, what the heck just happened because he's not making a right turn, his traffic lights green, why is he stopping," he says. "You hear tires screeching and skidding, I was just like, what just happened? I thought I did something wrong or someone beside me did something but then you see a car just stopped."
He says it seemed like a medical situation at first.
"I saw this car fully stopped and I thought it was someone having a heart attack or something because it was out of nowhere," says Jamali. "Then I see police cars just come right behind him."
First responders also found an "unknown substance" in the vehicle and the Hazmat Team was called in to investigate.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle were then taken to hospital for treatment and placed under arrest for drug related offences, according to police.
Hazmat teams probing substance found in truck at Tecumseh Rd. and Forest Glade Dr. Area blocked off. Witnesses say 2 people in truck sent to hospital. No update from police on condition.
