VIDEO: A New Slogan For Ontario Licence Plates

Ontario licence plates may soon have a new slogan.

The Doug Ford government is looking at replacing "Yours To Discover" with "A Place To Grow" for all passenger vehicles and "Open for Business" on commercial plates.

Opposition critics have slammed the changes as a waste of money and an attempt to force the Progressive Conservative government's partisan slogans onto the vehicles of Ontario drivers.

Premier Ford has said the redesign would come at no cost to taxpayers.

When asked about the new slogan for regular plates, Government Services Minister Bill Walker would only say "stay tuned until Thursday." That's the same day the province will unveil the 2019 budget.

"A Place To Grow" is a line from the song "A Place to Stand." That was featured in a film the debuted at Expo 67.

The government is also exploring options to eliminate front licence plates from all vehicles.

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police is raising concerns over the possible plan, arguing the financial savings will not outweigh the issues that will arise for police investigating a crime.

Association Executive Director Jeff McGuire says it will take away 50% of the opportunity for vehicles to be identified.
