VIDEO/AUDIO: Documentary Highlights Life of Bob Probert

A documentary is in the works highlighting the highs and lows of former Detroit Red Wing enforcer Bob Probert.

Based on the book "Tough Guy", the documentary titled "Tough Guy: The Bob Probert Story" includes footage of his hockey career with his fights, interviews and his struggles with cocaine.

His widow Dani Probert says it is not a warm and fuzzy film calling it 'raw and dark.'

Speaking on AM800's the Afternoon News, Dani Probert says it will be educational for the younger generation.

"It is opening up a whole new, a bunch of doors really, as far as millennial and I crack up when I think about my kids and their friends, they know of Bob."

She says their children knew that Bob made mistakes, but he persevered.

"That was something that we dealt with a long time ago, I remember being pregnant with our first Brogan and Bob feeling shame with his past and wanting to protect our kids, our daughter from seeing any of that or knowing any of that."

Dani Probert says hearing Bob's voice again hit a nerve.

"Hearing him tell his story and hearing his voice is fantastic. It is a heavy documentary, there aren't any warm and fuzzies with it, I'm not going to lie, its' raw, its real, its dark, but it's all Bob."

Probert died of a heart attack on July 5, 2010 while boating on Lake St. Clair.

He was just 45 years old.

He played 474 of his 935 career NHL games for the Detroit Red Wings.

The documentary will air December 14th on Canada's Superchannel.
