VIDEO: Indy Cars Racing in the Motor City
The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix returns to the Motor City this weekend.
The event on Belle Isle will feature the cars of the IndyCar Series, the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the Trans Am Series.
Two former IndyCar Series champions and Indy 500 winners captured victories last year in the Motor City.
Scott Dixon of Ganassi Racing won Saturday's Dual I to secure his 42nd career victory to go along with his 2012 Detroit triumph.
In Sunday's race 2012 IndyCar Series champ Ryan Hunter-Reay outdueled teammate Alexander Rossi for his first career win on Belle Isle.
Will Power, a member of Team Penske won the Indy Race in Detroit in both 2014 and 2016, and he tells AM800 Sports this is one of the most important events of the season.
"This is Chevy's backyard and it's such a great partner for us not only in the series but definitely in the team," says Power. "Everything they do for us, give us great engines, great support , so it's pretty special if you can win here for Chevy."
Power, who is from Australia, says this is a very demanding event.
"You know here you just manhandle the car and here you can't," adds Power. "These days you have to have the car right and you have to drive it right as there's just nothing left on the table in this series."
There are five races in all this weekend including Indy Car races, set to start at 3:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
