VIDEO: LaSalle Celebrates Olympian Kylie Masse
LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya declared Aug.18 Kylie Masse Day.
More than 100 people greeted the Olympic Bronze Medallist and World Record holding swimmer at Front Road Park.
Masse spoke to the crowd across from the very pool where she honed her skills as a youngster.
She told AM800 News it was a humbling experience.
"It's super inspiring and humbling to be here and see all these little kids. I'm looking forward to meeting them and taking pictures with them," she says.
Masse looks forward to being a role model for the towns youth.
"I remember when I was a younger swimmer I really looked up to the older Swimming Canada athletes and Canadian Olympians. That was something I always treasured, getting to see them at different high-level meets and taking pictures with them," says Masse. "I really want to be that person for younger kids."
Antaya says Masse is a great ambassador for the town.
"We like to celebrate our own and there's no better person to celebrate than her," Antaya says. "She's demonstrated how a classy young athlete acts and we're very proud that she's from LaSalle."
Masse was also presented with a framed copy of a banner that dawns several light posts on the way into the Vollmer Complex off Laurier Dr.
