VIDEO: Lightning Strike Blamed For Fire
A lightning strike is to blame for a fire at 1021 Campbell Ave. between Grove Ave. and College Ave. in Windsor.
Firefighters responded to the scene shortly before 7:30am on Tuesday. Union Gas staff were also called to the scene.
Howeowner Priscilla Lassaline says she was having coffee this morning when she heard a boom.
"I was in my dining room and I was having a coffee and heard a loud 'boom' and I saw flickering and I thought it was my porch light," she says.
Lassaline says it was a peaceful morning up until that point.
"I came out and that's when I noticed that my hedge was on fire and I went outside with my garden hose to put it out," says Lassaline, adding Union Gas technicians got to work quickly. "[Firefighters] had to wait for Union Gas and the best thing they could do is let it burn off."
No injuries have been reported.
The section of Campbell Ave. between Grove Ave. and College Ave. is expected to be closed for most of the day as Union Gas crews assess the damage from the lightning strike. Barricades have been put up and Transit Windsor buses are being re-routed around the area.
