VIDEO: Make-A-Wish Foundation Turns Windsor Girls Dream into Reality

Windsor's Lexie McCallum and her family will get to follow her dream thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and her favourite place — Willowood Resort in Amherstburg.

The six-year-old is living with a rare blood disorder that requires regular blood transfusions among other treatments, so the Make A Wish Foundation has stepped up to make her dreams a reality. Her mother Melanie chose the same place Lexie loves to chase fire-flies, swim, and play with her friends as the location for her Make A Wish reveal Friday.

"My most favourite thing is pools and I can have my friends here with me ...  it's amazing," says Lexie.

Lexie will fly out to Vancouver to dip her toes in the Pacific Ocean then see the mountains by train before wrapping things up in Edmonton to spend a few days in a jungle room with her favourite thing — a massive pool.

Representative from Willowood did more than just offer up some space for the big announcement; the parks charity group donated new luggage and some spending cash to the family to make it a worry free trip.

Melanie tells AM800 News — with Lexie's brother Billy having gone through a similar illness — the only vacation time the family has spent out of town has been at the hospital.

"Willowood has been making our dreams come true for the last five years; they've just been so incredibly amazing. Make-A-Wish, they bent over backwards to do every single thing that Lexie asked for," she says. "At the end of it, to come together with family, it's beyond special. It's absolutely mind blowing."

She says the best part of the trip is going to be watching Lexie enjoy it.

"To be able to have everything that she asked for, every single thing that she asked for, they've been able to meet," says Melanie. "I just can't wait to see her face."

Lexie and her family head out on their adventure on July 15.
