VIDEO: Ottawa St. Businesses Welcome Windsor-Essex Pride Fest With Open Arms

The Windsor-Essex Pride Fest flag is flying high at Windsor City Hall to kick-off this year's festival.

The new location for the parade, set for Sunday, August 12, is along Ottawa St. followed by festivities at Lanspeary Park.

Windsor-Essex Pride Fest President David Lenz says the community had been asking for something new and different and the new location offers more green space and shade.

This is the 26th annual festival.

Ottawa Street BIA member Tracy Paterson says Ottawa St. is ready.

"To say that the merchants are not excited would be the biggest lie ever," she says.  "The windows are being decorated left and right, and we can not wait to party with you in Lanspeary Park."

She says it is ultimately about "loving love and letting everybody love who they desire and letting that be free."

During today's flag raising at Windsor City Hall, it was announced that a permanent rainbow crosswalk will be placed in Walkerville but details are still being worked out.

Caesars Windsor will also recognize pride fest by illuminating its towers with the rainbow colours.
