Essex New Democrat MP Tracy Ramsey has officially opened her campaign office.

She hosted a community barbeque Saturday at the office on Arthur Ave. along family, friends and her campaign team.

Ramsey was first elected to the seat in 2015, defeating Conservative incumbent Jeff Watson for the post.

She says she's already been knocking on doors to get a feel for what people are talking about.

"They're very concerned about health care; there are a lot of seniors that are struggling in our region," says Ramsey. "People are also worried about manufacturing jobs, so I don't think any of those will come as a surprise, but it definitely is concerns people have."

She says affordable housing has been a hot topic.

"It's been a real struggle out here in the county and it's something that's been reflected at the doors and I continue to be inspired by people in our community who are struggling but then reach out to help others," says Ramsey. "We really do have a fantastic area and it's wonderful to be at the doors talking to people."
