VIDEO: Steeple Back In Place At St. Anne Church
It's a big day in the Town of Tecumseh.
Crews have place the steeple back on top of St. Anne Church on Lesperance Rd.
Hundreds of parish and community members came out in the early morning hours to watch construction workers attach belfry to the steeple.
Ken Fauteux is a Tecumseh resident and member of St. Anne Church. He says he was here when it came down, and to watch it go back up.
"A lot of people, unfortunately, passed away before they got a chance to see this. This is a memory that you're going to have for the rest of your life."
The belfry has been sitting on the church's front lawn for a decade due to structural concerns. Fauteux says it's a happy day for the parish and the community.
"It's a very exciting day for this town. You can tell by how many people are here, how glad everybody is to see this finally happening."
The church had to raise $2.5-million as part of the restoration project. Local philanthropist Alan Quesnel donated $1.25-million.
The church has been in the community for 144 years.
Lesperance Rd. between Arbour St. and Tecumesh Rd. East will be temporarily closed until Friday at 4pm for the ongoing work.
