VIDEO: Successful Tampon Tuesday Fundraiser in Windsor

A big thank-you to Windsor and Essex County residents.

The annual 'Tampon Tuesday,' put on by the United Way of Windsor and Essex County and the Windsor and District Labour Council, has been hailed a huge success.

The goal is to collect cash, tampons, and other feminine hygiene products for women in need.

United Way CEO, Lorraine Goddard says the community always steps up to help those in need.

"I think it's just really indicative of the generosity that we see time and time again in this community," says Goddard.  "I think it's also indicative of the reality of what's happening in our community and not being able to afford feminine hygiene products is just a consequence of a better issue of poverty."

She says the United Way will distribute the donated items to local organizations.

"We already have 12 different organizations that we've made a commitment to donate the products," says Goddard.  "So they are food banks, shelters and other programs that support women in the community."

The groups did not set a fundraising goal but Goddard says they were on pace to beat last year's numbers.

Last year $3000 was donated and one full van of feminine hygiene products.
