VIDEO: ZF/TRW Votes Down New Deal, Set To Strike
Three parts suppliers for Windsor Assembly have ratified a new contract; a fourth has hit the picket-lines.
Avancez Assembly and Dakkota Systems voted 78% in favour of a new deal, and HBPO Canada squeaked in by a 56% margin, but ZF/TRW fell well short at 38%.
Unifor Local 444 President James Stewart says ZF/TRW is on strike as of midnight Friday. Stewart says workers who ratified the three-year-deal will see a $2 increase over the life of the agreement with pension gains and improved work conditions.
"Some people wanted more in terms of finances. We have to go through a pattern and look at everything that was said today and go through our notes, see if there are any workplace issues we can resolve, but ultimately it just wasn't enough," he says.
Stewart tells AM800 News there will be an impact on Windsor Assembly in the coming days.
"Some of the people there have been angry about some issues that we're trying to resolve and ultimately that reflected in the vote for sure," says Stewart. "The Windsor Assembly Plant will be affected shortly. Chryslers is aware, as are the management at ZF/TRW."
Stewart is uncertain when both sides will return to the bargaining table.
