Voting Change In Essex

It's back to the ballot box for Essex residents in 2018 municipal election.

Council has voted to scrap mail-in ballots, which were used in the 2010 and 2014 municipal elections.

The decision was made for a number of reasons including the labour intensive process of opening the ballots, security concerns, as well as some voters not properly filling out the forms.

Internet voting was discussed as well, but ultimately turned down.

Optical scan vote tabulators will be used to count traditional paper ballots for the next municipal election, scheduled for October 22, 2018.
