Walker Road Greek Development On Schedule

'On time and on budget' is how the Greek Orthodox Community is describing its new development on Walker Road.

Community President, Panos Sechopoulos, says construction at the site just north of the E.C. Row Expressway is expected to get into full swing in the new year with a goal of having walls up in January.

The $7.5-million project will feature a church and community centre with space for a Greek school, a members lounge and banquet hall facilities.

Sechopoulos says there's excitement in the community.

"A lot of people are happy that we're finally moving forward and we're actually having our new years celebration and hopefully to get some more feedback then. But people are excited and looking forward to the new facility."

He says things are coming together nicely.

"If you drive on E.C. Row and you look down on the south side you will see all the foundations of the buildings already done. We'll see a lot of progress in January visible from the outside. Looking forward to having a brand new building and a new community centre at the end of 2017."

The Greek community acquired the Walker Road site when land in Oldcastle was expropriated by the Ministry of Transportation for the Herb Gray Parkway.

A grand opening is planned for December 2017.
