WEEDC Called To Be "Bold" In Promoting Region
The Editor in Chief of trade journal Site Selection Magazine is encouraging the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation to be bold in touting this area.
Mark Arend spoke at the annual general meeting for WEEDC on Tuesday and explained this area is competing globally and has to think that way.
He says Windsor-Essex has to be forceful in letting companies know what's available here.
"To be proud of the assets that it has to work on areas that other areas are working on so that they remains competitive really those are the bottom lines," says Arend. "They have to be very comfortable communicating their industrial assets, their workforce assets their logistical assets. Everything companies look for when they're deciding where to commit millions of dollars in capital investment."
He adds while it's important to try to bring in businesses, getting a strong workforce to come here is also key.
"They also have to work just as hard at attracting talent," says Arend. "People with the skills companies want, the expertise, the research credentials. Whatever it is they need to work on attracting the talents and then in time — once that's in place — the projects will follow."
Arend says communities with attributes that attract millenials will do well in attracting businesses.
