Windsor A Finalist For Sports Tourism Award
Windsor has been recognized as a finalist for the 2017 Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance PRESTIGE Awards.
Windsor is nominated in two categories in the International Sporting Event of the Year Award and the Sustainability Award.
Back in December, the city hosted the FINA World Swimming Championships at the WFCU Centre which attracted athletes from more than 170 countries to the city.
14,000 room night accommodations were secured for the event including hotels in Leamington and Detroit.
Windsor's Sport Tourism Officer Samantha Magalas says it is a reflection of the work involved. "The FINA team worked so hard to put this event on and everybody at the city who was a part of it as well. Anybody from the volunteers to the students who were able to gain some experience through this event to the clubs that will be able to benefit, this is huge for our community."
Magalas says she heard from colleagues across the country who were impressed saying "putting a pool in a hockey arena turned some heads."
Recipients will be announced on Tuesday, March 21st during the 11th PRESTIGE Awards gala in Ottawa.
