Windsor-Essex Receives $24M From Federal Gas Tax Fund
Windsor and Essex County are sharing in close to $24-million as part of the latest installment of the federal Gas Tax Fund.
In July, the Government of Canada delivered the first of two annual $391-million installments in Ontario.
The money is earmarked for capital projects that include roads, bridges, public transit, drinking water, wastewater infrastructure and recreational facilities.
Windsor is getting $12.8-million.
Windsor's Chief Administrative Officer Onorio Colucci says the money has already been allocated in the 2017 city budget.
"It was part of the budget deliberations for 2017 so unfortunately it is not new money but it is certainly important money to help us deliver the projects that were approved by council as part of the 2017 budget," he says. "Over the last several years, it has been an important component of our capital budget, it is almost 13-15% of our total budget."
The County of Essex is receiving $5.4-million.
