Windsor Man Arrested After Trying to Flee From RIDE Check

A Windsor man is facing multiple charges after trying to flee a weekend RIDE program.

On June 15, Windsor police were set up on Wyandotte St. E near St. Luke Rd. when a motorcycle approached and was asked to stop.

According to police, the driver initially stopped but attempted to flee the area before officers were able to question the driver about his sobriety.

While attempting to flee, the driver lost control of the motorcycle and tried to flee on foot. Several officers joined in the chase and after a brief struggle, a taser was used and the suspect was arrested.

A large quantity of suspected methamphetamine and Canadian currency were seized and the suspect was also found to be a prohibited driver.

47-year-old Jackie Burkoski is charged with possession of suspected methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest and five counts of prohibited driving.
