Windsor Man Charged With Sexual Assault, Confinement, Of 16-Year-Old Girl
A Windsor man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl and holding her against her will.
Windsor Police Service says the incident started on Monday night when the girl reported meeting a 23-year-old Windsor man in downtown Windsor.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge tells AM800 News the man offered her a warm place to stay on a cold night and she accompanied him to a home in the 600-block of Bruce Ave. Shortly after arriving at the home Betteridge says the man sexually assaulted the girl and became extremely controlling,
Fearing for her safety the girl remained with her alleged attacker for several days, even exiting the home, before finally seizing an opportunity to contact police. Officers then arrested the man after 3:30pm Thursday without incident — the victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Betteridge says it's an example of why people need to be wary of strangers, especially young people.
"This is not someone she knew and it is never advised, especially at that age, especially being alone, to ever attend a stranger's residence because they're exactly that, a stranger," he says. "You don't know who they are and in this day and age that's taking a risk you don't need to take."
Betteridge says to avoid the situation at all costs, but when faced with a similar situation, there's safety in numbers.
"If you're ever in any type of danger, go to a congregated area and if you don't have a cellphone or access to a phone ask someone or go into a business and simply say I have a situation here, can you please call the police for us," he says. "Everybody knows the number, 911 in an emergency, and we're here and we will come out and we will assist."
Major Crimes executed a search warrant at the accused home Friday. Ahmad Aljazaary is charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement.
