Windsor Owned Fitness Firm Opening New Downtown Site
The owner of True Fitness on Tecumseh Road East near Pilette is opening a new facility in the downtown.
Luis Mendez stood on the sidewalk of his new space on the west side of Ouellette Avenue just north of Maiden Lane.
He hopes to open the 7000 square foot space in August and says there's still work to do to get it ready.
Mendez expects to staff the new location with about 15 people initially.
Mendez says they offer more than a regular workout gym. He says they focus on personal training services.
He says they have 225 personal training clients at the current facility that train 2-3 times a week on average, so they're training around 1300 hours a month.
Mendez says there will be additional services beyond fitness and working out, there will be access to a chiropracter and massage therapist.
"University did absolutely. Both the university and St. Clair College as well." says Mendez. "There's going to be a lot more walk-in traffic, there's no fitness facility for either students to go somewhere and work out and exercise. I went to the University of Windsor myself I know how important it is and how busy our gym was"
Mendez originally wanted to use the retail space in the Pelissier Street parking garage, but was turned down by the city.

He says the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association is helping by paying $625 of his monthly rent for the first year.
