Windsor Photographer Launches Book To Raise Money For Alzheimers
A Windsor photographer is using a cross-country bicycling trip to raise money for a good cause.
Don Martel is launching a new book Wednesday night called "Loaves and Fishes" after cycling more than 8,000 kilometres across Canada.
The book will feature stories and photos from the trip with $5 from each sale going to the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County.
Martel took more than 15,000 photos while on the trip.
"My intention was to do a colourful picture book on Canada," he says. "However, the stories and the things that happened to me were nothing short of miraculous really and I had to write the book."
Martel says he got started cycling through a chance encounter with a couple in Temagami who suggested swapping a wedding photo shoot for a bicycle.
"I took them up on their offer to swap for wedding photography. So they were cycling across the country for Alzheimers as well and my girlfriend at the time's mother was also affected by Alzheimers. So it was practically a no-brainer."
Martel is launching "Loaves and Fishes" at McKenzie Hall in West Windsor.
