Windsor's Pride Fest And Parade Moving Locations
The Windsor-Essex's Pride Fest and parade are moving locations.
For nearly two decades, the parade ran along Ouellette Ave. in downtown Windsor, but this year it will take place on Ottawa St. and the festival will be at Lanspeary Park.
Windsor-Essex Pride Fest President David Lenz says the community had been asking for something new and different.
The new location features more green space and shade compared to the Riverfront Festival Plaza.
"We have been looking at it for the last two years at least, we have been getting feedback from people who come down to the festival," says Lenz. "In the summer time in August down at the festival site, it is all cement."
The fee for Lanspeary Park is also less than other city venues.
Lenz says the new parade route also means a bigger parade. "Obviously going down the main strip of Ouellette, it will be different. The new strip will be almost double the size in length as far as the parade route, so it will be a bigger parade," he says.
Pride Fest takes place August 8-12.
The parade on August 12 will start at Argyle Rd. near the Windsor Market and head down Ottawa St. to Lanspeary Park.
