WSO Celebrates Anniversaries
Celebrations of numerous anniversaries are planned mark the 70th season of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.
The season starts in September and includes concerts to mark Canada's 150th year, the City of Windsor's 125th birthday and the 100th anniversary of Point Pelee National Park.
Music Director Robert Franz told AM800's 'The Afternoon News' that Canada's birthday will be included in a couple of events: "Heather Bambrick, a member of Broadsway a group out of Toronto, is doing a pops concert in the fall that is focused on Canadian popular music and we're finishing the season in the pops series with Canadian Brass playing with the Windsor Symphony."
The city's 125th celebration will feature Windsor's Poet Laureate reading poems poems about this region interspersed by music.
Franz says they've also come up with a contest concert with a Star Wars theme for the start of the Pops Series. "We, from the stage, are going to play tiny little few note excerpts from famous Star Wars music. Based on those tiny excerpts they're going to have to figure out which movie this music comes from and which character it represents."
The WSO travels to Point Pelee in April for a concert to celebrate the 100th year of the creation of the park.
Season packages will be available next month with individual concert tickets coming at the end of the summer.
