Lower Onslow man sentenced for assault

An 84-year-old Lower Onslow man has been given an 18-month conditional sentence after being convicted last week of assaulting a woman.

The Truro Daily News reports Charles Henderson pled guilty to assault after initially being charged with unlawful confinement, sexual assault, and procurement.

The charges stemmed from an incident last March where police received a 911 call from a passenger in a vehicle who was in distress.

The driver of the vehicle was intercepted by police near the Highway 102 exit in Onslow and they took the man into custody.

Police said at the time that the passenger did not sustain any physical injuries.

Henderson is under house arrest for the first six months of his sentence, followed by a daily curfew for the following 12 months, and then 12 months of probation.
