Nova Scotians reminded to be tick-aware

The province is reminding Nova Scotians to beware of blacklegged ticks when they're enjoying the outdoors this summer.

In a news release, the province says tick checks are the most important defence against the spread of tick-borne illness.

They encourage you to take several precautions, such as wearing light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts, pants and socks, wearing enclosed shoes, and checking clothing and exposed skin for ticks after working or playing outside.

The province says you should remove ticks as soon as they're found to prevent or reduce the risk of infection.
