PC Party leadership hopeful says it's time to end fracking ban in N.S.

Progressive Conservative leadership candidate John Lohr says it's time to end the ban on fracking in Nova Scotia, saying he trusts communities to make the right choice for themselves.

In a press release, the Kings North MLA says the Wheeler report in 2014 noted more research was needed before onshore natural gas development could take place in Nova Scotia.

He says the Liberals have no intention of "changing their job-killing stance toward natural gas development", adding "it's wrong to stifle jobs and economic development".

Premier Stephen McNeil said this week that his government has no intention of lifting its ban on fracking despite a new Energy Department analysis that says onshore natural gas resources could be worth between US$20-billion and US$60-billion.

The Liberals passed legislation banning fracking in 2014, but have not proclaimed it.
