2020 North American Indigenous Games awarded to Halifax
Halifax has bested Victoria and Ottawa to win the 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).
The Nova Scotia government says the NAIG Council chose Halifax in a vote yesterday in Montreal.
More than 5,000 Indigenous participants from over 756 nations take part in fifteen events over eight days, and also includes a large cultural village and a variety of cultural performances.
Events will be held at various locations in Halifax Regional Municipality and in Millbrook.
The Mi'kmaq Sport Council of Nova Scotia was behind the effort to host the games.
Toronto hosted the last NAIG event in 2017, where Team Nova Scotia picked up sixteen medals; five gold, seven silver, and four bronze.
