36-hour closure of emergency department in Springhill

The province says the emergency department at All Saints Springhill Collaborative Emergency Centre will be closed for 36-hours over the weekend.

The emergency room was shut down at 8:00 a.m. today and it will not re-open to the public until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority says the daytime closures Saturday and Sunday are due to a lack of physician coverage, while a shortage of nursing coverage is to blame for the overnight closure tonight.

The province says there are other temporary daytime closures of emergency rooms across Cumberland County scheduled for tomorrow and into next week.
