Additional student supports being added in CCRCE in 2018-19
Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education (CCRCE) Executive Director Gary Adams has announced additional student supports for the 2018-19 school year.
A number of new positions are being added, with a Student Health Partnerships Nurse, two Parent Navigators, and six Child and Youth Practitioners.
An additional school psychologist is being hired, and CCRCE says it and the nurse position are not being funding through their budget.
The number of Behaviour Support Teachers is doubling to eight, while two more Autism Teacher Specialists are being added to the 2017-18 total of three.
The hours for Education Assistants have been given a very small increase of 56 hours; the 2017-18 budget allotted 2009.2 total hours per day.
Finally, CCRCE will have four additional specialty positions: two additional Program Planning Specialists, 1.5 more Learning Centre teachers, and 0.5 additional support for students with identified learning disabilities.
In 2017-18, there were 2.5 Program Planning Specialists, 35 full-time equivalent (FTE) Learning Centre positions, 109 FTE Resource Teachers, and nine FTE Learning Disability Teachers.
CCRCE Communications Manager Jennifer Rodgers tells our newsroom the budget for 2018-19 is still in the works, but that despite each region still makes their own staffing decisions.
The province announced in May that it would be hiring an additional 190 new staff province-wide to address student and complex classroom needs as a result of recommendations in March from the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions.
