Air Canada plane came within 30 meters of planes waiting to take flight: report
An Air Canada plane carrying 140 people came within 30 meters of two of four planes lined up awaiting take off at San Francisco International Airport last week.
That's according to a preliminary report Canadian air safety regulators released Thursday.
The finding provides the first official accounting of just how close Air Canada Flight 759 came to causing what could have been one of the worst disasters in commercial aviation history.
Instead of lining up to land on the runway, the pilot mistakenly descended toward a parallel taxiway to the right of where four other aircraft were idling in the darkness before aborting the landing.
