Amherst fire sends man to hospital

Seven people have been displaced by a mid-afternoon fire in Amherst that sent one man to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Wednesday's blaze damaged the older two-storey house on Spring Street, which contains three apartments.

Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have arranged help for a woman from one apartment, and for a woman, her daughter, son and two grandchildren from a second unit.

A man living in the third apartment was being treated at hospital and officials say once released will receive similar Red Cross help.

There's no word on the cause.
