Animal cruelty charges laid in Pictou

Pictou District RCMP were called to Depot Street yesterday after a complaint that two people had a rifle in their possession.

Officers determined the weapon was a pellet rifle, but witnesses reported that the pair were shooting pigeons.

A 28-year-old man from Scotch Hill and a 44-year-old woman from Pictou were arrested and are facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and causing animals or birds unnecessary suffering.

They have been released from custody and are due in Pictou Provincial Court on June 6th.
