Starting tomorrow, hunters can apply for 1 of 5000 anterless deer hunting stamps for the 2019 hunting season.

The province says the anterless deer draw is a major part of sustainably managing the deer population.

A press release says stamps are available for zones 101, 103, 104, 106, 108 and 110 in mainland Nova Scotia, while stamps aren't needed for zones 102, 105, 107 or 109 as they are open to harvesting both males and females.

No anterless deer can be hunted in zones 111 and 112 in Cape Breton this year.

A release states to be eligible, hunters must be a Nova Acotia resident, hold a 2019 deer hunting licence, have a Nova Scotia Wildlife Resources Card and be at least 16 on December 8th last year.

The application fee is $8.04 plus HST and applications can be made online here or by calling 1-900-565-3337 to have the fee billed to a landline phone.

Applications will be accepted until Wednesday August 31 at midnight, with the draw on Tuesday September 3.

The results will be posted online on September 3 and winners will also be notified by mail.

The province says an anterless deer hunting stamp is valid when applied to a valid deer hunting licence. but it does not increase the bag limiit but permits hunters to harvest either one anterless deer or antlered deer.
