Arrests made, illegal cigarettes seized in Truro
Service Nova Scotia says two people from Halifax Regional Municipality were arrested in Truro on Wednesday after being found in possession of more than 220,400 illegal cigarettes.
Government says a vehicle was also seized, with Colchester District RCMP and the Colchester Street Crime Enforcement Unit assisting with the investigation.
A 47-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man each face charges under the Nova Scotia Revenue Act, Excise Act, and Criminal Code.
The man, who also faces charges under the Motor Vehicle Act, is due in Truro Provincial Court on Thursday, while the woman is due in court on June 27th.
Service Nova Scotia says the seized tobacco has a tax value of $60,654 in provincial taxes and $46,284 in federal taxes.
