Association for Nova Scotia's eight school boards welcomes hiring of consultant

The association for Nova Scotia's eight school boards is welcoming the hiring of a consultant to examine how the province's school system is administered.

Hank Middleton, president of the Nova Scotia School Boards Association, says Avis Glaze is a good choice to conduct an impartial review.
Middleton says boards aren't opposed to structural improvements as long as they help deliver services to students.
He says Glaze will have to talk to boards which are diverse geographically, culturally and linguistically before making her recommendations.

Glaze says she is approaching the task with no pre-conceived notions or directions from the government.

She says she will consult across the system including with school boards.

The review will look at all areas of administration and operations and will also look at ways of increasing accountability and transparency around budgetary decisions and the allocation of resources for the school system.

The final report is to be submitted by December 31st.
