Audit recommends expense policy changes in Richmond County
(CP) - A forensic audit of a northeastern Nova Scotia municipality is recommending changes to its expense policy after finding its chief administrative officer charged $582 for visits to two Texas strip clubs.
The audit of credit card and expense claims by staff and councillors in the Municipality of the County of Richmond also found alcohol purchases totalled just under $8,000, while $75,000 in meal and entertainment purchases included liquor.
But auditors from Grant Thornton who examined $800,000 in claims repeatedly said they couldn't determine the appropriateness of the expenses due to a lack of documentation.
The audit recommends meal expenses include a detailed receipt of who attended and the business purpose, as well as a spending limit.
