Bearcats' goaltender Myles Hektor named MHL 3rd star for October

The Maritime Hockey League's third star of the month for October is Truro Bearcats goaltender Myles Hektor.

The 20-year-old from Lake Bluff, Illinois went 6-0-0-0 in seven games for the month, helping the Bearcats climb near the top of the Maritime Hockey League standings.

Hektor posted a sparkling 1.30 GAA in October, allowing just eight goals in total, with a .961 save percentage and two shutouts along the way.

He’s now tied with Campbellton’s Isaak Pelletier and Amherst’s Matt Williams for the league lead in shutouts, and trails only Pelletier in GAA and save percentage.

Hektor earned three wins over a stretch of just four days early in the month, allowing just two goals on a total of 85 shots faced against Pictou County, Miramichi, and St. Stephen.

In his last three starts, Hektor has racked up 39 saves in a 6-2 win over Amherst on October 19th, 40 saves in a 1-0 shootout win on the road in Campbellton on the 26th, and 25 saves in a 4-3 overtime win the next night in Miramichi.

The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow night against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

Summerside's Kallum Muirhead was named first star of the month, while his teammate T.J. Shea was second star.

Pelletier was named rookie of the month for October.
