Budget preparations ongoing in Truro

Budget discussions are well underway in the Town of Truro, in preparation for the public presentation next month.

CAO Mike Dolter says staff have been meeting to determine operating priorities and set budgets.

He says the focus is on maintenance, with capital spending limited at this point to essential need, due to property assessments staying relatively flat, no significant jump in revenues, and having to absorb increases in operating expenses.

Dolter also says recent presentations from grant applicants have given council an overall view of the community's need.

He says the town has received over $500,000 in grant requests, but only $200,000 has been allocated in the budget.

Truro's 2016-17 budget was $27,140,818, an increase of just over $800,000 from 2015-16.
