Burnside jail inmate found unresponsive in cell dies in hospital

Halifax police have been called in to investigate the death of a man who was found unresponsive in his jail cell on Monday night.

Provincial Justice Minister Mark Furey has issued a statement saying the 29-year-old man was being held at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth.

Furey says staff at the jail began emergency response procedures at around 9:30 p.m.

The man, who was not identified, died at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Tuesday.
