Charlie A'Court announces music bursary for local high school grads

An acclaimed local musician has launched a bursary for local high school grads looking to continue their music education in university or college.

The Charlie A’Court Scholarship for Excellence in Music (CASEM) will award $500 to a CEC student this June, as 2017 marks the 20th anniversary since A’Court graduated from the high school.

He says the plan is to expand the bursary province-wide for 2017-18.

A’Court, a 5-time East Coast Music Award winner and 8-time Music Nova Scotia Award winner, says applications open April 1st and close May 12th.

The scholarship is designed to help a student accepted into Nova Scotia-based institutions offering music courses such as the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University or the Music Business Program at NSCC Waterfront Campus.

A’Court says students accepted to institutions outside Nova Scotia, like Humber College in Ontario or Berklee College of Music in the U.S., are also be encouraged to apply.
