Cobequid Pass highway debt could be paid off earlier than expected
The toll on the Cobequid Pass could be removed earlier than forecast as revenues have been higher than expected for a number of years.
CTV Atlantic reports that a meeting was held Monday with representatives of the provincial transportation department and local government and business leaders.
It was anticipated the highway debt could have been paid off by the end of next year, but the province announced last November that the payment schedule had changed to 2026.
Dianne Saurette, a finance official with Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, says estimates of when the debt could be paid off are more accurate now.
She told CTV Atlantic the province will be able to make a lump sum payment in 2019 or 2020.
