Colchester County more than doubling tipping fee for construction & demolition waste
The tipping fee for construction & demolition waste material at the Colchester Solid Waste Facility in Kemptown will more than double on April 1st.
Colchester County council voted in favour of the jump from $35 per tonne to $75 per tonne
County CAO Rob Simonds says they're hoping this is an incentive to encourage greater course separation of material for the recovery of recyclables.
Wood waste and metal tip fees were last increased in April 2015, and the county's fee has remained exceptionally low when compared to every other jurisdiction in Nova Scotia where the average fee is nearly $94.
A report to council also points out that better sorting of materials before going to the landfill means less waste being dropped off and this will extend the life of the construction & demolition landfill cells.
